Price List

Whole day:   10.00 am – 2.30 pm: £130 for a class of up to 32 pupils         

Half day:  10.00 am -12.00 pm or 12.30 pm – 2.30 pm: £100 for a class of up to 32 pupils

Self-Guided:  £20 per hour Self guided Farm Tours and Minibeast Safari are available.
Does not include access to the Education Building but some activity packs are available.

 

Activities for Foundation and Key Stage 1

Animal Tour

Farm Tour

A chance to meet our farm animals, as we take you on a walk round the farmyard.  We have cows, sheep, pigs, a pony, ducks and many chickens.  There will be a chance to stroke a chicken and hold a guinea pig.

 

Sun Flower

Plant Power
Investigate plants in the garden and trees in the woodland. Learn about pollination, growth and seed dispersal. Plus how humans use plants.  There is a also a chance to plant your own seeds to take back to school to grow.

Bull

Where The Wild Things Are
Go on a quest into the world of the Wild Things! Based on Maurice Sendak's classic children's book, this cross-curricular session brings to life ideas from the book, including literature, puppets, 'wild things' and even a 'wild rumpus' in the woods!

 

Earth walk

Earthwalk

An Earthwalk encourages children to use all their senses as they explore their natural environment.  The children are actively involved throughout the walk with a range of sensory activities.

Find out where minibeasts live, look under log piles, try tree beating and investigate in the long grass.  Using identification sheets the children can work out what they have found.

Pond Dipping

Investigate what lives beneath the surface of our pond.  Using pond nets and identification sheets the students can discover all about pond life and invertebrates.

Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy we will take a walk to the woods and create art using just natural materials.

Experience the wood through exploratory activities and games.  Find out more about the trees and wildlife that make up the woodland habitat or learn survival skills like shelter building.

Life Cycles
Meet the birds and the bees and find out about the lifecycles of chickens and the importance of pollination for the flowering plants in the gardens. Plus get involved with seed collecting and planting.

Frog

Interdependence and Adaptation
Learn about how our farm animals and their wild cousins are adapted to their surroundings, explore two habitats, which may include the pond, log pile, meadows or woods to discover the plants and animals that live there. Find out about how they are suited to conditions in their local environment and their feeding relationships.

Activities for Secondary Science at Woodlands Farm Trust

Diving Beetle

Classification (KS3)
Investigate different habitats at the farm to collect and sort a range of invertebrates, and build an identification key. ½ day session that can be combined with ‘Adaptation’.
NC: KS3 2.1a-c, 3.3d KS4 1.1a, 1.2b,c, 2.1b

Heron

Adaptation (KS3)
Investigate the weird and wonderful ways that bird beaks have adapted to different environments and discover the birds living on woodlands farm (binoculars provided!). ½ day session that can be combined with ‘Classification’.
NC: KS3 1.1b, 2.1a-c, 2.2a,b 3.3d KS4 1.2b,c, 2.1a

Field Skills (KS3-5)
Learn about different survey techniques that can be used to measure population sizes or biodiversity (seasonal – may include a timed search, quadrats, small mammal trapping, reptile refugia). Work in groups and choose techniques to compare the biodiversity of two habitats on the farm and report back findings.

Green Farming (KS3-4)
Learn how Woodlands Farm manages land to encourage wildlife. Investigate the affect of fertiliser use by measuring the biodiversity in different areas, or investigate the pests that live on the farm and discover how they can be controlled. Work in groups and report back findings.
NC: KS3 1.2b, 2.1a-c, 2.2a-b, 2.3a, 3.4c KS4 1.2a-d, 1.3a,c, 2.4a

Leaves

Earth Art!
Explore the fields and woods for inspiration, and collect and experiment with natural materials (e.g. leaves, feathers, wool etc). ½ day session that can be combined with ‘Ancient Crafts’.

Weaving

Ancient Crafts
Have a go at willow weaving, spinning or wool craft. This session can be combined with Earth Art!

Activities for Secondary Physical Education at Woodlands Farm Trust

Field View

Orienteering: Introductory Course
A typical course of four one hour workshops would include:

  • An Introduction to Orienteering
  • Health and Safety on the Farm
  • Orienteering terminology and techniques introduced gradually throughout the course
  • Short courses across the fields
  • A longer course across the fields
  • An orienteering challenge through fields and woodland
Orienteering

Orienteering: Rocket Challenge
Students collect the components they will need to make their water rockets from the orienteering controls and use their compass to navigate to the launch pad.

Orienteering

Orienteering: Radioactive Challenge
Pupils take part in a mock radioactive clean-up operation where they collect personal protective equipment from the orienteering controls and work as a team to safely dispose of ‘radioactive debris’ that have been deposited in the woods. Any ‘contaminated’ students will be quarantined!
