Orienteering

The Woodlands Farm Trust has an extensive, permanent orienteering course spanning our 89 acres of farmland and woodlands, as well as a new farmyard based 'practice course'. Our orienteering sessions are always popular with secondary groups, and link closely to GCSE P.E. specifications.

Students learn how to interpret and use maps and compasses, find out about contours, distances and timings, and develop skills in 'aiming off' and lost proofing. Our sessions are adaptable to the particular needs and capabilities of classes and involve greater or lesser degrees of independent learning. Challenge activities involve helping decontaminate a 'Nuclear Disaster' and collecting items to use in a timed teamwork activity.
