Join us for a full day of hands-on hedge-laying to learn all the practical skills and techniques involved in hedge-laying, as well as the history of why it’s done here at Woodlands Farm. Throughout the day, the course will cover:

  • Ground Preparation – how to clear sites and select for suitable growth.

  • The Art of Pleaching – how to slice stems precisely to preserve them in their natural, live, supple and bendable state.

  • Traditional Tool Mastery – how to safely handle billhooks, pruning saws and axes.

  • Staking & Hazel Binding – how to secure upright stakes and weave hazel binders.

This is a one-day course which runs from 8.00am until 4pm.

All equipment will be provided (billhooks, axes, pruning saws, safety gauntlets and eye protection).

Please wear suitable clothing (layers and waterproofs) and sturdy work boots or wellies. Protective steel toe-caps are strongly advised.

Please also bring a packed lunch.

The course is £90 per person.
